A Message to Our Users

We strongly support Apple’s position on encryption and government-mandated malware. Security is paramount to the future of infrastructure we are building at Flynn.

Governments should not force software vendors to create malware that attacks their own products and users.

Infrastructure is vulnerable enough today without governments compelling vendors to weaken security standards or create malware.

Vendors should be responsible for creating secure software. Asking them to attack their own software is unhealthy for their products, users, and society.

Software must not be susceptible to vendor-produced malware.

We take the threat of forced updates seriously and are reevaluating Flynn’s design in light of this new threat.

We are also prioritizing work on reproducible builds. Soon we hope to reach a point where forced updates of Flynn are not possible. We encourage other vendors to do the same.

This Week in Flynn

Jonathan (@titanous) and Alex (@nobert) are in Texas this week. Check out our meetup schedule for details.

This week we shipped many bugfixes that improve stability. Cluster resurrection has been improved, recovery from reboots and service restarts is now working correctly.

We also found a bug in our update logic that causes failed updates to the flynn and flynn-host binaries. If you see a panic when running flynn update, delete ~/.flynn/update/tuf.db and the issue will go away. On the server side, delete /etc/flynn/tuf.db and re-run flynn-host download to fix the issue.
